It has been a year since the last election for Crystal City officials. The next election on April 7, 2009
is even more important than the last. The City Council is currently locked in a 4 to 4 tie on smelter issues.
Three of the four
pro-smelter council seats are up for election and one of the four anti-smelter seats is up for election.
Over the last year the votes have been tipped to the pro-smelter side by the mayor's tie-breaking votes.
Last year the mayor told the press that the citizens were "hood-winked" into voting for the anti-smelter candidates.
Our group has been accused of fear mongering, lying and misleading the public.
The truth is that we are the ones that have been misled and kept in the dark. We have been
fed misinformation and, most often, have been fed no information at all.
The press has generally not been friendly to our side. We have had to rely on this meager website and have had
to pay to have our message communicated to the public. Our cause has become increasingly difficult because of the
worsening job situation. It seems that some will sacrifice everything for a few jobs.
We whole-heartedly agree that jobs are of the utmost importance. We just believe that our community does
not have to settle for the most environmentally unfriendly industry in the world. We also believe that our area
is very valuable, that it will attract investors and that it can sustain a more diverse set of industries that will carry
our families far into the future for many generations to come.
But we don't want to make the decision for you. We want you to decide for yourself.
Please read our latest Trust Issues so that you can make an informed decision on April 7, 2009. You owe it
to yourself, your children and your children's children.
